Sarnoff Corp. says its Iris on the Move Portal iris recognition system was tested last December at Schiphol Airport in The Netherlands as part of an evaluation of iris recognition technologies in a closed environment to understand how the different systems work. Sarnoff says their technology was one of three selected for the evaluation. Sarnoff, a subsidiary of SRI International, says its Iris on the Move Portal can screen up to 30 people per minute. The system captures the iris images of people in motion at a distance combining the security of iris recognition with the speed and convenience of a pass-through system. The company is also developing a version of the system for use by the Army in the field (TR2, Oct. 1, 2008). Sarnoff is introducing a new variant of its Iris on the Move Portal that is integrated with a typical walk-through metal detector. The system will be on display at ISC West next month in Las Vegas. Sarnoff is getting interest in the Iris on the Move technology for security at border checkpoints, particularly in the Middle East and South America, Ray Kolczynski, program manager for Iris on the Move, tells TR2.
