Engineering & Computer Simulations (EDS) has received a contract from the Federal Emergency Management Agency to help emergency planners obtain real world experience and measure performance to gain certification through its simulation tool, Emergency Management Staff Trainer (EMST). The value of the one-year contract wasn’t disclosed. The EMST contract will allow emergency management personnel to acquire and learn expert strategies for conducting emergency planning, retaining and committing critical knowledge and skills related to emergency planning, and explaining and differentiating between expert and novice strategies to accomplish key emergency planning tasks. ECS says FEMA has the task of developing a certification program to develop a certification program for emergency response personnel. The EMST will be used as an experiential assessment whereby first responders are placed in realistic, simulated situations and then evaluated based on their performance in the system. The contract is the first for ECS with FEMA.
