A leader in C4ISR for more than four decades, Northrop Grumman is delivering its next generation: dynamic C4ISR. Our thought leadership and solutions provide the C4ISR systems that have enabled network- and knowledge-centric warfare. Now, we are looking ahead to the future of C4ISR.
The company is developing composable C4ISR systems that allow commanders to best execute their intent. This new generation of highly reconfigurable systems gives them the ability to “compose” C4ISR assets to respond to and anticipate evolving threats, mission and operations. In the longer term, these systems apply pervasive data and actionable knowledge to foresee strategic needs and increase readiness.

Northrop Grumman brings critical technologies and expertise to dynamic C4ISR. Our cross-domain systems employ open, modular architectures for ultimate flexibility and lower life cycle costs. Our interoperable, software-driven solutions deliver multiple functions in a size, weight and power (SWaP)-efficient package. Advanced sensor technology tracks the enemy more effectively, and our multi-INT capabilities rapidly fuse and process information with absolute precision. These are the path to intent-centric warfare.

Northrop Grumman is a leading global security company providing innovative systems, products and solutions in unmanned systems, cybersecurity, C4ISR, and logistics and modernization to government and commercial customers worldwide. Please visit www.northropgrumman.com for more information.

Lockheed Martin’s approach to open architecture is built on more than four decades of open system, rapid capability deliveries to the U.S. Navy, including open architecture solutions for the Navy’s surface fleet and submarine force. Lockheed Martin also developed the COMBATSS-21 system, which is derived from Aegis Open Architecture and continues the open systems software currently deployed in the Aegis fleet. Aegis and LCS share 95 percent commonality. COMBATSS-21 and other Lockheed Martin open architecture programs are designed from Lockheed Martin’s Common Source Library (CSL), which enables technology insertions and software fixes to be used many times across multiple programs. The CSL establishes a common requirements and software library for products and builds each program from that same library. Currently, Aegis cruisers and destroyers, LCS and Coast Guard programs utilize the CSL, which brings together open combat system components and common information standards. The latest evolution of the Aegis system design is the 9th Baseline of the Aegis system, on ships. This system uses open architecture standards to integrate commercial-off-the-shelf technology and will be further enhanced in future systems.

Lockheed Martin has also developed The acoustic rapid commercial-off-the-shelf insertion (ARCI) program, which started in 1998, was developed to enable continuous improvement of submarine systems in a quick and affordable way. The system is built around an open systems architecture to exploit modern commercial processing development. This allows the submarine’s processors to grow as commercial processors improve. The Navy selected the ARCI in order to improve sonar against ever-improving anti-submarine warfare capabilities.
