DHS Expands Mobile App Archiving Technology
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Science and Technology branch has expanded its mobile app archiving project across all major mobile apps markets. In addition to Android apps, the technology can now archive apps from iTunes, Windows Phone Store, Google Play, Amazon, and 83 global third-party mobile app markets such as Baidu and Cydia. The archiving project was begun in 2013 to help the government vet and inventory mobile apps quickly. The project was developed by George Mason Univ. and commercialized through a small business called KryptoWire. “This technology will help manage and secure mobile apps and the delivery of next-generation IT services,” says Reginald Brothers, DHS under secretary for Science and Technology.
DHS S&T Works with California Gov. on Geospatial Situational Awareness Tools
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Science and Technology (S&T) Directorate and the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services have formed a strategic partnership to collaborate on advancing public safety information sharing. Over the next year the partnerships will help to establish data links between the California office and DHS’ Geospatial Information Infrastructure and facilitate the development of an incident management information sharing capability to help first responder agencies determine areas for improvement. The two organizations will also collaborate on strengthening satellite communications capabilities for first responders in rural areas with low connectivity.
