The Domestic Nuclear Detection Office (DNDO) has awarded OSI Systems‘ [OSIS] Rapiscan Systems division three contracts worth a combined $6.4 million for development work on active interrogation source and detection technology and for replacement of Helium-3 (He-3) detectors. The agency’s Transformational and Applied Research Directorate awarded Rapiscan $3.7 million for work on active interrogation source technology. The company also received $1.6 million from the agency for work on detectors for active interrogation systems. Under a $1.2 million contract Rapiscan is working on replacement detection technology for He-3 detectors, which are in short supply. Separately, Customs and Border Protection Rapiscan a $1.6 million contract to supply X-Ray parcel screening systems. The contract was awarded with Recovery Act funds.
