Rep. Jane Harman (D-Calif.)–a leading voice on homeland-security, intelligence, and space matters–reportedly is poised to resign from Congress today.

Multiple news reports yesterday said Harman was waiting for final approval from the Woodrow Wilson Center for International Scholars to become its president and chief executive officer. The Washington, D.C., think tank’s board of trustees is expected to vote today on making Harman the successor to former Rep. Lee Hamilton, (D-Ind.).

Harman is the ranking member of the Homeland Security Committee’s intelligence subcommittee. She has been outspoken in her support of Israel, fighting for example in recent years for the United States to share its X-Band ground-based warning radar with the country.

Harman has represented California’s 36th congressional district since 2001, and before that from 1993 to 1999. The district includes parts of greater Los Angeles, including Redondo Beach and El Segundo, home to the Los Angeles Air Force Base and many defense contractors.
