The FBI has opened a new facility at the Energy Department’s Savannah River National Laboratory in South Carolina that enhances the agency’s ability to examine radiological material and associated evidence. The first phase of the Radiological Evidence Examination Facility (REEF) opened in 2006, providing facilities and equipment for trained FBI personnel to safely perform forensic examination of radiological contaminated evidence. The new facility is six times larger than the original suite and allows for more kinds of forensic examination.
