CWMD Office Issues RFI for Radioisotope Detection and Identification Devices

The Department of Homeland Security Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction Office plans to host an all-day virtual Industry Day on Oct. 6 to share the current state of Thallium Bromide (TIBr) gamma detection capability and its vision for future TIBR detection equipment. The CWMD Office says that recent findings demonstrate the viability of TIBr as a method to achieve its goal of significantly improving the technical performance of current radiological and nuclear detectors while significantly lowering costs. CWMD sees a need for about 2,000 next-generation RIIDs over five years in support of government users. The office on Oct. 7 and 8 will host follow-on one-on-one sessions to gather feedback on how to meet its technology transfer goals. RIIDs are handheld devices used in primary and secondary security screening to find rad/nuke material in a small area. Notice ID: 70RWMD21RFI00000010. Contact: Kimberly Marriott, [email protected]
