Delta Scientific Successfully Tests Bollard Design

Delta Scientific says its DSC635 single shallow foundation bollard design has been successfully tested to stop and destroy a 15,000-pound test truck traveling over 50 mph with less than two-feet of static penetration and just over six-feet of dynamic penetration. The simulated bomb load remained intact and contained on the truck bed. The front wheels were pushed back behind the cab and the engine ended up on the passenger side of the seat. The truck was stopped and completely disabled. The DSC635 stands 44-inches tall and is 15.75-inces in diameter.

Excelitas Introduces new HD MWIR Camera

Excelitas Technologies has introduced OrcIR, the company’s latest long-range, high definition (HD) mid-wave infrared (MWIR) camera, which combines small pitch sensor technology with a custom designed, continuous zoom optic for long-range imaging performance in a compact space envelope. Excelitas says that OrcIR is optimized for applications such as border and naval surveillance, fire control, and counter-drone. The OrcIR is an evolution of the company’s CheetIR-L thermal camera and in addition to increased range, includes a longer focal length of 500mm in the narrow field of view.

SITA’s Biometric-Enabled SmartPath Solution Being Piloted by SFO, United

SITA says that San Francisco International Airport (SFO) and United Airlines [UAL] are trialing the company’s SmartPath low-touch biometric-enabled airport experience for passengers from check-in to boarding on select domestic flights. For the 60-day evaluation, which began in early April, during the check-in process, travelers scan their drivers’ license and a photo will be taken linking them to their license and flight details. From that point, the passenger can use any touchpoint by stepping in front of a camera to confirm their identity and flight details. A SITA spokesman told HSR that the company is in discussions with the Transportation Security Administration to evaluate the capability at the checkpoint. At boarding, participants don’t have to present their boarding pass. “We are looking forward to participating in this trial with SITA and exploring new technology that will help inform our biometric offerings in the future, as well as our domestic customers a frictionless experience as they travel through SFO,” says Lori Augustine, United’s vice president of Airport Operations at SFO.
