The Department of Homeland Security Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction (CWMD) Office has issued a Request for Information in support of market research about the capability and availability of commercial off-the-shelf radioisotope identification devices (RIIDs) in support of state, local, tribal and territorial agencies. Idaho Lab Offering Licensing Opportunity for Secure Millimeter Wave Comms for Drones

The Department of Energy’s Idaho National Laboratory (INL) is offering a technology licensing opportunity and or collaborative research agreement to commercialize the Secure Millimeter Wave Communication Network for Operating Drones technology. INL says its researchers have developed a novel 5G wireless network using newly available mmWave frequency to operate unmanned aerial vehicles with machine to machine communication and provide an alternative to existing methods with improved radio frequency coverage and resiliency against cyberattacks. INL says the technology can be used to operate a swarm of drones with increased RF coverage, capacity, security and efficiency, adding that currently available wireless networks are not adequate to support the operation of a large number of drones. CWMD Office Issues RFI for Cloud Software Engineering Support

The Department of Homeland  Security Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction (CWMD) Office has issued a Request for Information to identify the number and nature of the vendors able to provide cloud software engineering services, cloud technical services, and supporting software to its Systems Support Directorate and other CWMD directorates for the fielding of an information architecture to support the office in its effort to combat the use of a weapon of mass destruction within the U.S. and its territories. The scope of the support encompasses a full range of cloud software engineering services, system administration, cyber security services, cloud technical services, and supporting software to field maintain, secure and accredit the CWMD information architecture. Army Issues RFI for Sense Through the Wall System

The Army Contracting Command, on behalf of the Combat Capability Development Command, has issued a Request for Information (RFI) seeking sources to develop a Sense Through the Wall (STTW) system for the Special Products and Prototyping Division Quick Response Branch. The STTW program is in partnership with the Army’s Special Operations Forces. The Army wants to identify potential man-portable systems that give the soldier the ability to detect, identify and monitor persons, animals and materials behind multi-leveled obstructions from a long standoff range. The sensor system will also be able to map the structure and detect hidden rooms, passages, alcoves, caches, etc., including those underground. Users want to be able to distinguish friend from foe, and see if a person is sitting, walking, standing, or lying down, and perform positive identification of personnel via biometric data. The system must also be able to detect and classify various materials and objects in a structure, including tripwires, IEDs and explosives, weapons and ammunition, and other traps. Coast Guard Issues RFP for Polar Star Service Life Extension

The Coast Guard has issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) for a service life extension of its lone heavy polar icebreaker, the Polar Star. The service plans a phased service life extension project (SELP) of the aging icebreaker to keep it operational while new Polar Security Cutters (PSCs) are delivered to the fleet beginning in 2024. Work on the Polar Star, which was commissioned in 1976, will occur between deployments. The 399-foot icebreaker is currently in Antarctica in support of Operation Deep Freeze, the annual joint mission to resupply the U.S. Antarctic stations operated by the National Science Foundation. The ship departed its homeport of Seattle in November is expected to remain in the area through February before heading home. The contract for the Polar Star SLEP will be an indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity award with a five-year base period that contains five one-year ordering periods.
