The Transportation Security Administration says it is planning to issue a solicitation in the near future that addresses “a holistic screening experience approach with a focus on design or redesign of the process, experience, physical space and supporting technology of the entire system.” The announcement is contained in a new Broad Agency for Innovation for Aviation Security, which is focused on near and long-term solutions for aviation screening (see BAA in Business Opportunities section of this issue.).
Morpho Detection has received a $1.2 million task order from the Transportation Security Administration to install, integrate, test and multiplex network four CTX 9800 explosive detection systems at Los Angeles International Airport Terminal 1. The two-year task order was made under an existing contract for medium-speed EDS. The new EDS systems are replacing older medium-speed systems and have improved detection capability. California-based Morpho Detection is part of France’s Safran Group although Britain’s Smiths Detection has agreed to acquire the business unit.
SureScan Corp. has named John Percival as its new president, replacing LeeAnn Levesque who recently left the company to pursue other opportunities. The company says that Percival, who joined SureScan earlier this year as vice president of engineering, will be responsible for the company’s overall operations, design, manufacture and sale of its x1000 computed tomography explosive detection system for screening checked baggage.
The Department of Homeland Security Science and Technology Directorate has increased by $143,054 an existing task order with Booz Allen Hamilton [BAH] related to on-site assistance to the First Responder’s Group. The additional funds, which take the potential task order value to $5.1 million, allows for additional work to transition three FRG public-facing and mission relevant websites to a combination of a government-hosted solutions and a solution under a competitively awarded contract.
