DHS Awards Hassett Willis $64M for BioWatch Support

Hassett Willis and Company, a small woman-owned business, has received a potential five-year, $64.4 million contract from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to provide systems engineering and technical support to the BioWatch program office within the Office of Health Affairs. Under the contract Hassett Willis will collect, organize and evaluate existing program information, support DHS in coordinating, managing and improving program operations, and develop and maintain a comprehensive program management plan.

CATSA Awards Morpho Detection $100M for EDS Systems

Morpho Detection, Inc. (MDI) has received a potential contract worth up to $100 million over five years from the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) for a number of low-, medium-, and high-speed explosive detection systems (EDS) to screen checked baggage at airports throughout Canada. For the first delivery order MDI will supply 12 EDS, eight of its compact CTX 5800 and four high-speed CTX 9800 DSi systems to airports this year. MDI did not disclose the value of the initial delivery order. The high-speed system can scan more than 1,000 bags per hour and the CTX 5800 more than 400. Both systems are certified by the U.S. Transportation Security Administration and approved by the European Civil Aviation Conference as meeting European Union Standard 3 explosive detection requirements, which are required for all new EDS aviation applications in Europe beginning in Sept. 2014. MDI is part of Safran.

Ideal Innovations Awarded $6M to Continue Support for BIMA

Ideal Innovations, Inc. (I3), has received a $5.7 million contract from the Army to continue providing support for the Biometrics Identity Management Agency (BIMA). I3 supports BIMA in the development of internal, interagency, and international biometric policy resulting in the inclusion of Defense Department-affiliated U.S. personnel biometric data in the DoD Automated Biometric Identification System database was well as the policy governing the collection and searching of biometric data pertaining to isolated U.S. persons in theater.

Smiths Detection Awarded Contract to Supply ETDs to Canadian Airports

The Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) has awarded a contract to Smiths Detection for the company to supply more than 100 of its IONSCAN 500DT explosive trace detectors (ETDs) to a number of Canadian airports. The award was made last fall and deliveries are expected to be completed this month. Smiths Detection did not disclose the value of the contract but a company spokesman tells HSR it is estimated at several million in Canadian dollars. Smiths Detection says the desktop ETDs will complement the company’s X-Ray systems used by most Canadian airports to screen carry-on bags at security checkpoints.

Luxembourg Customs Selects Smiths Detection’s Mobile Cargo Scanner

Smiths Detection has received a contract from Luxembourg’s Customs agency to supply a mobile X-Ray cargo scanner for deployment at its headquarters and various checkpoints around the country. The value of the contract was not disclosed. The HCVM high-energy mobile screening system will be used to check vehicles for hidden weapons, explosives and narcotics and contraband, and to help in combating tax fraud. The system will also be equipped with the Automated Radioactive Material Discrimination capability for the detection of radioactive threats, and the Dataset Management System that can transmit and store images for analysis. The HCVM can inspect up to 25 trucks per hour.

Kratos to Provide Security Systems for Critical Infrastructures

Kratos Defense & Security Solutions, Inc. [KTOS] says it has received multiple contracts to provide specialized security systems for certain mass transportation, rail and other critical infrastructure. The value of the awards and the customers were not disclosed. Kratos says that surveillance and other security related assets, which will be integrated into a command and control infrastructure, will be part of the deployments.
