The Transportation Security Administration plans to award Lockheed Martin [LMT] a $292,540.00 contract modification to a $6.1 million task order the company received in Sept. 2012 for systems integration services in support of Operational Test and Evaluation of new or modified Transportation Security Equipment. The modification is required to support services related to the testing of the Advanced Wait Time system, Credential Authentication Technology/Boarding Pass Scanning System, and Explosives Detection System onsite support.
Implant Sciences [IMSC] has received a follow-on order for three Quantum Sniffer QS-H150 handheld explosives trace detectors from a customer in Africa. The units will be used for aviation security. The customer acquired its first QS-H150s last year.
The Department of Homeland Security has certified 19 states as compliant with the rules of the REAL ID Act, which sets out security requirements for driver’s licenses and identification cards. “Taken together, 30 percent of the adult population will soon be carrying a genuinely secure driver’s license,” says Brian Zimmer, president of the Coalition for a Secure Driver’s License. Federal agencies will continue to accept all licenses and deification cards for boarding commercial aircraft and other official purposes until Dec. 1, 2014.
The DHS Science and Technology Directorate has opened the new location of its National Urban Security Technology Laboratory in New York City. The relocation and modernizing of the lab facility includes a new training space for first responders and testing and measurement labs with state-of-the-art radiation detection equipment. The NUSTL is used to test, evaluate and analyze homeland security capabilities and technologies.
