Implant Sciences [IMSC] has won new orders in several countries for its Quantum Sniffer QS-H150 handheld explosives trace detector, including a contract for four of the devices from a military branch of a Middle Eastern nation. The sale was made by Bahrain-based Building Defence System’s, one of the company’s international distributors. Implant also received a follow-on order for one QS-H150 from an Asian nation for used by its secret services for head of state protection. Finally, Implant received a follow-on order for a QS-H150 from a nuclear power plant in Japan. The plant has acquired the devices since 2008.

President Obama last month issued an Executive Order establishing the White House Homeland Security Partnership Council that will foster local partnerships with federal, state, local, private and other stakeholder organizations to address homeland security challenges. The council will advise its members on priorities, challenges and opportunities for local partnerships to support homeland security priorities and promotes these priorities between all stakeholders. The council will be chaired by the assistant to the president for homeland security and counterterrorism.

Australia is allowing U.S. members of Customs and Border Protection’s Global Entry program to use the country’s SmartGate automated border processing system on a trial basis. SmartGate performs the customs and immigration checks usually conducted by an Australian Customs officer and uses biometric face recognition and ePassport technology to process passengers. U.S. travelers that have Global Entry benefits through their NEXUS or SENTRI membership may also participate in the SmartGate pilot provided they meet eligibility criteria.
