Smiths Detection Receives Order from Leidos for TSA Logistics Support

Smiths Detection has received a multi-million dollar order from

Leidos [LDOS]  to provide field support and supplies for its X-Ray, advanced X-Ray and explosives trace detection technology deployed at U.S. airports. Leidos is the prime contractor for the Transportation Security Administration’s Integrated Logistics Support contract for supplies, part and services to security equipment deployed at 400 airports across the U.S. Separately, Smiths Detection says it won a contract from Ethiopian Airports Enterprise to supply a range of conventional X-Ray systems for scanning cargo at Bole International Airport in Ethiopia’s capital, Addis Ababa. The systems include Hi-SCAN 6041i and HI-SCAN 9075 units for freight, HI-SCAN 1080 EDX 2 for the automatic detection of explosives, and the HI-SCAN 145180 for palletized cargo. The company also says it has won a $17.6 million order from a Saudi Arabian security agency to provide a HCVG high energy cargo screening system, CIP-300 car inspection portal, Advanced Technology HI-SCAN 6040aTiX explosives detection X-Ray system, and IONSCAN 500DT and SABRE 5000 explosive and trace detection systems. The name of the customer, which is new for Smiths Detection, wasn’t disclosed.

DISA Awards ManTech $4M for Unified Cyber Analysis Portal

The Defense Information Services Agency (DISA) has awarded ManTech International [MANT] a $3.8 million follow-on contract to complete development of the Unified Cyber Analysis Portal (UCAP), which “will provide a single location through which the members of the incident malware and analysis communities in the Defense Department and other federal cyber centers access (redacted) tools, data, and information pertaining to malware (redacted),” according to a July 1 posting on the FedBizOpps.gov website announcing the award. The work is being done to meet requirements of U.S. Cyber Command. ManTech won the UCAP award in 2011 when the program was administered by Air Force Cyber Command.

TSA Awards InfoZen Extension to Continue Support to Intel Office

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has awarded InfoZen a follow-on contract to provide uninterrupted service for the operating and computing environment to the Office of Intelligence and Analysis. The estimated ceiling costs for the extension, which has a three-month base period and three one-month options, is $10.7 million, the agency says. The operating and computing environment consists of a collection of programmatic and mission-specific infrastructures that include high-speed data processing, electronic storage, network communications system components, and mission-specific vetting application software.

USCIS Awards $2M Contract Bridge for Architecture and Design Services

Eagle Ray Inc., a woman-owned small business, has received a four-month $2.3 million contract bridge from U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Office of Information Technology under the Architecture and Design Services II project. The contract bridge will continue services for the governance over architecture and design of all USCIS systems, standardizing the agency’s systems architecture, creating a flexible and nimble code development capacity, and adopting an agile architecture. A recompete of the current program is expected to be completed by the end of October.

DARPA Awards Swiss Firm Potential $1M for Rad Detection

The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) Defense Science Office has awarded Switzerland’s Arktis Radiation Detectors Ltd. a potential $1.2 million contract for the development of novel approaches to low cost, high efficiency, packaged radiation detectors for identifying hidden threats, ranging from special nuclear materials to radiological sources. The contract has a $200,000 base value and a $1 million option. Arktis, which was founded in 2007, has capabilities in direct fast neutron and gamma radiation detection. The award was made under the SIGMA program.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Federal Protective Service has awarded Deco Inc., a potential $67.3 million contract to provide protective security officer services throughout Colorado. The award is an indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity contract.

Alion Receives $3M DTRA Award to Improve Nuclear Detection Technology

Alion Science & Technology has received a $2.8 million contract from the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) to develop new methods to use an advanced nuclear detection system that uses boron-coated “straws” instead of on reliant on Helium-3 gas to detect neutrons from special nuclear material. Alion says it will develop methods to make the boron-coated straw detector directional, so that a search team can pinpoint the location of the source of neutrons to react to threats more effectively. He-3-based detectors are omnidirectional, so they can only alert to the presence of neutrons. Alion will also research how to increase the detector’s efficiency and focus on miniaturizing and speeding up the electronics. Alion is partnered with Texas-based Proportional Technologies Inc. for the work, which runs until March 2017.
