Tunisia would spend an estimated $282 million under a possible Foreign Military Sale for the refurbishment of SH-60F helicopters–being provided as Excess Defense Articles (EDA)–and associated equipment, parts, training and logistical support, according to a July 2 release from the Defense Security Cooperation Agency.

Tunisia has requested a possible sale for the refurbishment of 12 SH-60F Multi-Mission Utility Helicopters being provided as EDA (the grant EDA notification is being submitted separately), 29 T700-GE-401C engines, 24 installed and five spares, inspections, spare and repairs parts, support equipment, personnel training and training equipment, publications and technical data, U.S. government and contractor engineering, technical and logistics support services, and other related elements of logistics support.

The prime contractor for the engines would be General Electric [GE] in Lynn, Mass.

The proposed sale will would help improve the security of a friendly country that is an important force for economic and military progress in North Africa.

This proposed sale would improve the modernization of the Tunisian air force’s overwater search and rescue capability and enable continued interoperability with U.S. Armed Forces and other coalition partners in the region.
