The Air Force Material Command has awarded Britain’s ThruVision Systems an $890,000 contract for three T-5000 terahertz imaging systems to be used for body scanning. The Air Force Institute of Technology will use the systems to teach Defense Department personnel techniques in the use of full body scanners. One application is to use the imagers in a crowded marketplace to identify suicide bombers before they have the chance to detonate the device. The T-5000 imaging system sits on a tripod and is used for outdoor screening of persons between six and 25 meters away.
