Teledyne Technologies [TDY] on April 8 said it has agreed to acquire CARIS, a developer and supplier of software for marine geospatial information used by private and public sector organizations internationally.
Terms of the deal, which is expected to close in the second quarter of 2016, were not disclosed.
Teledyne said that about 90 percent of the world’s hydrographic offices use CARIS in their workflow and that the Canada-based firm offers the most comprehensive solution for processing and visualizing sonar data, as well as for producing, managing and distributing marine geospatial information.
“By providing powerful data processing, mapping and geospatial imaging software, CARIS ideally complements both our marine instrumentation and digital imaging businesses,” Robert Mehrabian, chairman, president and CEO of Teledyne, said in a statement. “CARIS immediately extends our marine capabilities, advancing the delivery of imaging and information from Teledyne’s broad portfolio of marine sensors and systems. Furthermore, we belief that CARIS will help Teledyne further improve our software and real-time processing tools across our sonar and bathymetric and topographic LIDAR businesses.”
CARIS’ customers include international navies and agencies and private sector entities.
CARIS will become part of Teledyne’s Digital Imaging segment.
It has 140 employees and offices in Canada, the United States, the Netherlands, Australia, and the United Kingdom.
