Pennsylvania County Activates Maritime Security System
Pennsylvania’s Delaware County this month activated its new maritime security system that was installed by Boeing [BA] to monitor critical infrastructure along a 14-mile stretch of the Delaware River near Philadelphia. Boeing developed its first maritime security solution through a $4.4 million contract it received from the county in July 2011 (HSR, Aug. 3, 2011). The county obtained the funds through a grant from the Department of Homeland Security. Boeing’s Watchstander Integrated Security System includes radar, day/night/thermal imaging cameras, intrusion detection and intelligence, and a microwave communications network that is fed into its security management platform, the Visual Security Operations Console. The new Delaware County system is operational with cameras installed at key locations along the river and surveillance monitors installed at both and Emergency Services Center in Middletown, Pa., and the Delaware Valley Intelligence Center in Philadelphia.
