DHS Launches Hiring Initiative to Improve User Experience

The Department of Homeland Security has launched a hiring initiative to focus on improving service delivery across the department. The goal is to hire hundreds of mission-driven technologists with product management and customer experience expertise through the largest hiring initiative in any federal agency. The effort will be led by DHS Chief Information Officer Eric Hysen. The new hires will support customer experience efforts DHS is already working on including the improvement of air travel through mobile driver’s licenses and touchless curb-to-gate experience, and improving the ability of Transportation Security Officers to respond to traveler questions across multiple channels; helping disaster victims apply for assistance, simplifying citizenship and immigration service applications, strengthening information sharing with law enforcement and first responders nationwide, and reducing the paperwork burden on the public.

DHS Debuts EV for Law Enforcers

The Department of Homeland Security has introduced an electric vehicle, the Ford Mustang Mach-E, fitted for law enforcers at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers’ operations in Cheltenham, Md. The Mach-E is the first of various EVs the department plans to field across its law enforcement missions in the U.S. “As the nation’s third largest federal agency and largest law enforcement agency, DHS has an inventory of more than 50,000 vehicles, with law enforcement vehicles making up 60 percent of its fleet,” John Tien, deputy DHS Secretary, said in a statement. The Mach-E is being tested by the Federal Protective Service to ensure it meets the demands of DHS law enforcement missions.
