Smiths Detection Introduces New Air Cargo Scanner

Smiths Detection has launched a new dual-view X-Ray inspection system, the Hi-Scan 145180-2is, to screen large cargo, pallets and freight items to be shipped on both passenger and cargo planes. The compact system can screen objects up to 57-inches by 71-inches, meeting the maximum skid/pallet size allowed by the Transportation Security Administration. Smiths already has 16 inspection systems on TSA’s Air Cargo Screening Qualified Technology List, including the single-view Hi-Scan 145180 that is already deployed for air cargo screening. “Our new advanced X-Ray system will allow shippers to screen bulk items without the requirement of unpacking shipments, scanning individual boxes and then reassembling the pallet or large shipment,” says Mal Maginnis, president of Smiths Detection. “The Hi-Scan 145180-2is, which also features a highly compact footprint, will save our customers both precious time and money.”

Sarnoff Introduces Portable Iris on the Move Camera System

SRI Sarnoff has introduced the handheld, Iris on the Move (IOM) RapID-Cam II camera system for biometric enrollment and identity verification. The system can enroll individuals into a database by capturing dual-iris and facial images in less than 30 seconds. Once a person’s records are in the database, the system can verify a person’s identity in less than a second, SRI Sarnoff says. “The IOM RapID-Cam II provides an accurate, mobile biometric solution for field operations at a price point that does not currently exist in the marketplace,” says Mark Clifton, vice president of Products and Services at SRI Sarnoff.

Telos Certified to Aviation Channeling Service

The Transportation Security Administration has certified Telos ID as a designated aviation channel (DAC), allowing it to provide airports and airlines with greater choice in aviation channeling services for employee security threat assessment services. Telos ID is the first certified DAC to receive authorization to operate under an agreement made last year between TSA and three vendors. Through DAC services, employee data is collected and submitted to TSA to conduct employee threat assessments necessary to work in an aviation environment. “The aviation industry has been looking forward to greater choice in channeling service providers,” says Mark Griffin, president of Telos ID. “A more competitive environment will lead to greater innovation in services and an increased focus on customer satisfaction.”
