The former Airbus unit was once better known as COMSAT and SDC has renamed it Satcom Direct Government, Inc., doing business under the brand name COMSAT. Under Airbus, the business unit was called Astrium Services Government, Inc. (ASGI).

SDC has acquired all of ASGI’s business operations and two earth stations located on the East and West Coasts of the United States.

“This acquisition is a big step forward in expanding our presence in the U.S. government market and we look forward to the benefit it brings for existing and new customers,” David Greenhill, president of SDC, said in a statement. “These new assets, combined with SDC capabilities, enable us to offer fixed and mobile satellite services in Ku, Ka, L, C, and X bands in multiple markets, including and beyond aviation.”

The COMSAT business provides a range of fixed satellite communications solutions operating in C-Band, Ku-Band, Ka-Band, X-Band, and UHF, and mobile satellite solutions better through Inmarsat, Thuraya, and Iridium. The company provides these solutions to U.S. civilian agencies and the military.
