Science Applications International Corp. [SAIC] yesterday said it was eliminating one of its corporate positions and realigning three others to directly report to CEO Tony Moraco as part of an effort to refine its operating model.

Tom Baybrook, SAIC’s executive vice president and chief administration and operations officer, is leaving the company to pursue other interests. Baybrook’s position is being eliminated and his additional functional responsibilities for real estate, contracts, procurement, shared services, government affairs, and business development operations will be taken on by other company executives.

SAIC said that the information technology (IT), communications, and corporate development departments will now report directly to Moraco.

“This realignment is a continuation of our efforts to streamline operations and improve market competitiveness,” Moraco said in a statement. “Elevating the three functions to the executive leadership team also is designed to enable SAIC to be more proactive and responsive to market requirements and opportunities.”

The IT department is headed by Bob Fecteau, senior vice president and chief information officer, Communications is led by Lucy Fitch, senior vice president and chief communications officer, and Corporate Development is run by Jennifer Smith, also a senior vice president. These three officers previously reported to Baybrook.

The new alignment is effective Feb. 1.
