The National Telecommunications & Information Administration (NTIA) yesterday released 10 Requests for Information (RFI) as part of a market research effort to determine the most appropriate design approach for a nationwide high-speed wireless network for first responders.

The RFIs seek input from vendors and other stakeholders related to potential deployment options for two portions of the First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet) public safety network, the radio access network and the core network, NTIA said. The NTIA is a branch of the Commerce Department.
“These RFIs will enable FirstNet to gather input from equipment manufacturers, service providers and other stakeholders on possible models and partnership and technology platforms,” Bill D’Agostino, FirstNet General Manager, said in a statement. “We need to hear about innovative, cost-effective solutions for delivering the coverage, capacity, connectivity, cyber security and resiliency that a high-speed network dedicated to public safety demands.”
Once the NTIA receives responses, which are due by Aug. 30, it will devise and issue Requests for Proposal for FirstNet.
