Rep. Mick Mulvaney (R-S.C.) narrowly received Senate confirmation Feb. 16 to be White House budget chief, overcoming vocal opposition from Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee.
The Senate voted, 51-49, to approve Mulvaney, President Trump’s pick to be director of the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB).
McCain had urged his colleagues to reject the nomination, citing Mulvaney’s attempts to cut defense spending during his six years in the House of Representatives.
