Safran Group‘s Morpho Detection security business has fulfilled an $8.7 million order to supply its EntryScan 4 explosive trace detection walk-through portal to NETco Inc., the company’s exclusive distributor to the nuclear industry. The system will be installed to help detect explosive threats at nuclear facilities throughout the U.S. The EntryScan 4 is based on Morpho Detection’s Ion Trap Mobility Spectrometer (ITMS) and can detect a broad range of explosives in seconds. The Transportation Security Administration purchased earlier versions of the EntryScan system for aviation checkpoint security of passengers but discontinued the purchases due to maintenance issues with the portal systems. The portals are commonly called “puffers” because they puff air in order to disturb particles on a person standing still in the portal so that they can be analyzed by the ITMS technology.
