The latest of the San Antonio-class (LPD-17) amphibious transport dock ships has completed sea trials and is due to be commissioned next year.

The USS Anchorage (LPD-23) underwent sea trials Friday that included demonstrating main propulsion engineering and ship control systems, combat and communications systems, damage control, various mission systems and its electronic network, Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) said yesterday.

“These trials are the final major milestone prior to delivering LPD 23 to the Navy,” Jay Stefany, LPD- 17 program manager, said.

Once commissioned, the ship built by Huntington Ingalls Industries [HII] will join USS New Orleans (LPD 18), USS Green Bay (LPD 20), and USS San Diego (LPD 22) as the fourth ship of the class to be home ported in San Diego.
