L-1 Identity Solutions [ID] has received a five-year, $62.8 million contract from the California Dept. of Motor Vehicles to continue providing secure driver’s license solutions. The contract includes two, two-year options that would add an additional $45.8 million to its value. The contract builds on legacy work L-1 has done for the California DMV and adds new workflow processes and technologies to provide a more secure process for the driver’s licenses, L-1 says. New additions include using customer fingerprint verifications to prevent customer substitution during the application process to ensure that the person who initiated the application is the same individual that completes each step of the process. California is also integrating operator fingerprint logon and application branding to identify the DMV operator responsible for processing each applicant at the camera station. Moreover, security enhancements will be made to the license to make it as tamper-proof as possible. “L-1’s reputation for delivering a superior product and their track record in our state for providing the best technologies in the industry helps address fraud through various aspects of the driver’s license issuance process,” says George Valverde, director of the California DMV.
