Global mobile satellite services provider Iridium Communications [IRDM] and remote asset tracking and information management solutions firm SkyBitz have partnered to develop a two-way, remote asset tracking and monitoring solution by integrating the SkyBitz Global Locating System with Iridium’s 9602 satellite data transceiver. The companies say their solution is ideal for markets such as trailer tracking, oil, gas, chemical, rail, cargo shipping and government, given emerging requirements for intelligent sensor solutions and two-way communications to deliver insights on valuable assets. The companies also say that the SkyBitz GLS solution will feature lower power consumption and a longer battery life than is commercially available today in the global tracking market. Iridium’s 9602 transceiver permits two-way satellite links for real-time data transmission. The companies say their solution will have an open architecture and be scalable so that it is not restricted to custom mobile terminal hardware. Solution prototypes have been built and tested.
