The House Appropriations Homeland Security Subcommittee yesterday approved by voice vote a $39.1 billion discretionary budget for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in FY ’13, $393 million less than requested.

The mark-up followed release on Tuesday of the House Appropriations Committee’s recommendation for the DHS budget (Defense Daily, May 9). The $39.1 billion recommendation is also $484 million less than Congress appropriated for FY ’12.

House Republicans on the Appropriations Committee said the reductions will go toward paring the nation’s deficits and debts.
