General Electric [GE] yesterday said its GE Aviation division has acquired Morris Technologies and its sister company Rapid Quality Manufacturing to boost its engineering and manufacturing capabilities to meet growing jet engine production rates.

Terms of the deals were not disclosed. Combined, the two Ohio-based companies have 130 employees.

Morris and Rapid Quality specialize in additive manufacturing, which is an automated process for creating rapid prototypes and end-use production components. The companies have made everything from lightweight parts for unmanned aerial vehicles used by the United States military to hip replacement prototypes for the medical field.

Morris and Rapid Quality are already under contract with GE Aviation to produce components for the LEAP jet engine being developed by CFM International, a joint venture between GE and Snecma of France’s Safran Group.

In addition to aerospace and medical, Morris and Rapid Quality also focus on the energy, and oil and gas industries.
