Avir Sensors has introduced ChemSight, a device that detects and identifies airborne chemicals in seconds, and can be used for fixed security applications to monitor indoor and outdoor spaces for critical infrastructure protection. The Central Virginia-based firm says that the two-part open path system was developed at the Univ. of Virginia and tested in a major U.S. subway system. ChemSight can monitor lines of sight up to 45 meters and detect and identify nearly instantaneously multiple chemicals and interferants. The system requires no consumables, is largely maintenance free, making it an install-and-forget detector, Avir says. “Having been tested both domestically and internationally, our product has a proven record of success,” says Dr. Gaby Laufer, founder and president of Avir Sensors. ChemSight is a Qualified Anti-Terrorism Technology with SAFETY Act designation.
