The U.S. Export-Import Bank has guaranteed a medium-term loan from UPS Capital Business Credit [UPS] to support the export of explosive detection systems (EDS) made by L-3 Communications [LLL] and Science Applications International Corp. [SAI] to the Grupo Aeroportuario del Centro Norte (OMA), which operates 13 international airports in central and northern Mexico. Ex-Im says the two companies are selling $23 million in equipment to OMA. Reveal Imaging Technologies, prior to its acquisition by SAIC, reported on the sale last summer, saying it was selling 25 of its CT-80 EDS systems worth $14.3 million for inline baggage screening at five airports (TR2, July 7, 2010). Bill Frain, senior vice president for L-3’s Security and Detection Systems business, tells TR2 that his company is providing its eXaminer 3DX 6500 to OMA for inline checked baggage screening, marking the first sale of its EDS equipment to OMA. Frain says deliveries of the 3DX 6500 should begin in the first quarter of 2011. He declined to say how many of the systems are being sold to OMA. The equipment from both companies will be installed in seven airports. OMA eventually plans to install inline systems at all 13 airports it operates.
