Morpho Detection Nabs ETD Contracts with Fraport, Lufthansa

Morpho Detection has received contracts from Frankfurt, Germany airport owner and operator Fraport AG

and German airline Lufthansa for benchtop explosives trace detectors (ETDs). Fraport ordered 45 Itemiser DX ETDs and Lufthansa 17 of the systems.  Under the contract with Fraport, the ETDs will be deployed to Frankfurt Airport this year stemming from new European Union legislation for explosives screening of personnel, materials and concessions entering secure areas of airports. Morpho Detection, a subsidiary of Morpho, which is part of Safran Group, is working with local partner ELP GmbH on the Fraport contract, which followed a competitive operational testing program. “We are proud to be the first German airport to change the screening process according to the new EU regulations for personnel,” says Markus Volnhals, project manager at Fraport, in a statement. “Working with Morpho Detection has allowed us to maintain regulatory compliance while enhancing our screening capabilities without impacting the flow of goods and personnel.” Also in response to the new EU legislation, Lufthansa will deploy its Itemiser DX units at Munich and Frankfurt Airports for explosives screening of personnel, materials and concessions entering secure areas of the airports. Lufthansa Cargo will use one unit for explosives screening of air cargo at Frankfurt. The airline’s cargo branch is upgrading from its current Itemiser ETD system that has been in use for more than 10 years. ELP GmbH also worked with Morpho on the Lufthansa deal.
