Britain’s Cobham yesterday said that it has appointed Bob Murphy, who is currently an executive with Britain’s BAE Systems, as its new CEO effective June 22.
Murphy has spent more than 25 years in the civil, commercial and defense sectors of the aerospace and defense industry and is currently executive vice president responsible for global operations of BAE’s Product Sectors business, which has annual sales of $10 billion and 25,000 employees. BAE’s Product Sectors includes the Electronic Systems and Land & Armaments Sectors.
Last fall former Cobham CEO Andy Stevens took early retirement due to a recurrence of an old back injury. Since then, the company’s Chairman, John Devaney, has served as Cobham’s executive chairman pending the appointment of a new CEO.
Murphy has also led BAE’s Land & Armaments business as well as its Technology Solutions Sectors. Before joining BAE in 1999, Murphy spent 18 years with General Electric [GE], including a role as chief financial officer of the company’s military aircraft engines business.
Murphy is also a member of BAE’s Executive Committee.
