FBI Surveys Market for Facial Recognition Vendors
The FBI’s Criminal Justice Information Services Division has released a Request for Information to identify potential sources that plan to participate in the National Institute of Standards and Technology Face Recognition Vendor Test one-to-many evaluation in 2018. The FBI says in the future it plans to solicit proposals from the face recognition technology industry, adding that all vendors interested in supplying the agency with automated face recognition technology are encouraged to participate in the NIST evaluation. “This evaluation will likely reveal the best performing face recognition algorithms on the market today and set the bar for future advancement,” the FBI says. “Results from the 2018 FRVT can ultimately be used by law enforcement agencies as well as the private sector for face recognition benchmark and planning purposes.” Respond by Dec. 21. State Department Issues RFI for Managed Trusted Internet Protocol Service
The Department of State has issued a Request for Information (RFI) for market research to determine the capabilities of industry to provide and support a Managed Trusted Internet Protocol Services (MTIPS). The department is considering acquisition of a commercial vendor solution that is fully accredited by the General Service Administration and in compliance with the Trusted Internet Connection (TIC) program managed by the Department of Homeland Security. The department envisions a highly flexible TIC that transfers much of the capital expense to an operating expense model based on usage and access. The department continues to study the option of utilizing an MTIPS provider to deliver the required TIC capabilities that meet or exceed current cyber security capabilities and capacity. Sol. State Department Issues Solicitation for Mexico Airport Security Project
The U.S. Department of State Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs in partnership with the Government of Mexico’s Directorate General Aeronautica Civil has issued a solicitation as a small business set aside for a systems integrator that can provide equipment and services that will enhance current airport security infrastructure at eight major airports throughout Mexico. In some cases, U.S. Transportation Security Administration qualified equipment is required. The equipment includes passenger screening, carry-on and checked baggage screening, biometric access control security systems with video camera security. DNDO Issues RFI for Maritime PRD
The Domestic Nuclear Detection Office (DNDO) has issued a Request for Information (RFI) for a personal radiation detector (PRD) maritime variant. The office recently conducted a competitive acquisition of general purpose and maritime PRDs but no maritime device was selected because all proposed devices failed one or more Key Performance Parameters. DNDO wants information on whether any commercial off-the-shelf maritime variant PRDs have been updated or not included in the original competition can meet all the performance metrics. TSA Seeks Sources for Third Party Canine Cargo Screening
The Transportation Security Administration has issued a Request for Information to get industry inputs on a proposed program to use explosive detection canine teams operated by third party vendors to screen aviation cargo to agency standards. TSA plans to host an unclassified industry day on Dec. 28 in Northern Virginia to further discuss the program, which has been in the works for more than a year. “After considering various models and engaging with Congress and industry representatives on the best direction of the 3PK9-C effort, the TSA is investigating the use of private industry, third party canine certifying organizations … to perform all 3PK9-C team testing and certification activities,” the agency says. DHS Announces Deadline for FY ’17 Small Business Reporting Requirements
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) says that Jan. 31, 2018 is the deadline for FY ’17 Service Contract Reporting Requirements for small businesses. Failure to complete service contract reporting in the System for Award Management by that date will result in non-compliance being included in the contractor performance evaluation in the Contractor Performance Assessment Reporting System.
