*Tek84 Engineering Group discussed its new Ait84 whole body imaging and shoe scanning system at this month’s American Association of Airport Executives Aviation Security conference in Arlington, Va. The body scanning portion of the system has been acquiring images for the past few weeks and the company sent them off to the Transportation Security Administration for review, Amit Verma, director of Government Affairs for Tek84, tells TR2. The company expects to send shoe scanning images to TSA this month, he adds. The Ait84, which combines both backscatter and transmission X-Ray, creates a composite image using the two technologies that is enhanced by privacy filters. Verma says the system will be ready to be laboratory tested by TSA by next March if the agency invites the company for testing. The system not only screens through shoes but also can see through headwear, casts and prosthetics.

*House Republican leaders will look at consolidation of committee jurisdictions over the Department of Homeland Security, Jennifer Arrangio, Republican Counsel for the House Homeland Security Committee, tells TR2 at the American Association for Airport Executives Aviation Security conference. Close to 100 congressional committees and subcommittees have oversight responsibilities for DHS and its components, a number that Rep. Peter King (R-N.Y.) would like to see pared down, she says. King is expected to become chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee in January. She expects an answer from the Republican leadership in the coming weeks.
