Implant Sciences Corp. [IMSC] has sold multiple units of its Quantum Sniffer QS-B220 desktop explosive trace detectors to one of the largest freight forwarders in the world. The name of the customer, which is new to Implant, and the value of the order were not disclosed. The units will be shipped to three different international locations and will be used for scanning cargo. The QS-B220, which features a non-radioactive source, is approved by the U.S. Transportation Security Administration for screening air cargo.

Decision Sciences International Corp. says it has received a contract from the U.K.-based Atomic Weapons Establishment to provide a muon tomography scanner system for research on new scanning and imaging applications. AWE provides and maintains nuclear armaments for the U.K. AWE says that the muon tomography scanner enables its nuclear security function that it performs in Britain. The value of the award wasn’t disclosed.

The Coast Guard has awarded Academi Training Center, Inc., a $1.4 million contract to procure training ranges for the service’s Maritime Security Response Team. The award has a five-year ordering period.

The Transportation Security Administration plans to award L-3 Communications [LLL] a $508,056 task order for software upgrades and associated hardware for 49 of the company’s eXaminer 6600 medium-speed Explosive Detection Systems located at McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas.

American Science and Engineering [ASEI] has named Mike Tropeano to lead Customer Development and Support, a new organization within the company that includes Global Sales, Field Service, and Customer Program management functions. “This new alignment of AS&E’s key customer-facing organization will be a critical driver to heighten customer focus and further strengthen customer support,” says Chuck Dougherty, AS&E’s president and CEO. “Mike will be instrumental in leading the organization to ensure we have a cohesive approach in our end-to-end dealings with our customers to ensure satisfaction, program success, and outstanding support services.” Tropeano at one time was the company’s chief on the Z Backscatter Van system and most recently was vice president of Program Management at AS&. He is also joining the company’s executive management team.
