The Air Force’s Electronic Systems Center has issued a Request for Information (RFI) for a portable vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) unmanned aerial system (UAS) to support the detection of improvised explosive devices (IEDs). U.S. forces currently using a variety of robotic platforms for reconnaissance and surveillance, but these platforms are slow getting down range and the height at which mounted cameras can observe suspect items is limited. The system should weigh less than 150-pounds, be able to be carried by a Mine Resistant Ambush Protected vehicle, and have a flight endurance of at least three hours with eight being the goal. Sol. No. XRSD-02. Respond by Nov. 5. Contact: Harvey Tobin, technical engineer, 781-377-5425, [email protected].
