The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has issued a Request for Information (RFI) seeking industry input related to technologies and operational capabilities to automate the process of detecting, locating and preventing people and objects from massing through exit lanes from the public side into the secure or sterile areas of transportation entities in order to circumvent typical checkpoint or access control security. TSA is interested in detection, tracking and monitoring, containment, notification, and integration technologies and systems. TSA says that since 9/11 it has had to assign one or two screeners to each exit lane to prevent breaches from occurring. However, TSA says this approach has had some failures that has resulted in millions of dollars in lost flights and delays for airlines and airports because when a breach occurs, a terminal must be evacuated and investigated to find the person or persons that breached security.
