AKAL Security, Inc., has received a potential five-year, $150.8 million contract from the Transportation Security Administration to provide comprehensive passenger screening security services at Kansas City International Airport in Missouri. The contract was awarded under the Screening Partnership Program (SPP) and has a one-year base period and four one-year options. The incumbent contractor at Kansas City International is FirstLine Transportation Security, Inc., who received a potential $173 million contract from TSA in 2006 under the SPP effort, which allows airports to opt-out of using federal screeners to provide screening of passengers and checked baggage. AKAL’s award follows one made last month by TSA to Covenant Aviation Security for private screening services at San Francisco International Airport (TR2, April 13).
