Exelis [XLS] and Airbus Group have signed a teaming arrangement to supply advanced missile system warning capabilities for U.S. and international F-16 fighter jets, Exelis said Monday.

The arrangement is meant to provide lightweight protection against short-range air defense missiles and man-portable missile systems (MANPADS). Under the agreement, Exelis will be the lead U.S. contractor for the AAR-60(V)2 Missile Launch Detection System for Fighters (MILDS F).

MILDS F is a product of Airbus Defense and Space and is cleared to operate on F-16s by the U.S. Air Force’s certification process.

The system will be made available internationally through foreign military sales, Exelis said.
