The Coast Guard National Security Cutter (NSC) Hamilton on Monday arrived at its homeport in Charleston, S.C., 24 days after leaving its construction shipyard in Pascagoula, Miss.

The Hamilton, the fourth of eight planned NSCs, is the first to be homeported on the East Coast.  Along its voyage the 418-foot high endurance cutter logged more than 3,000 miles, completed underway certification, and made three calls in Florida ports.

The Coast Guard said that during the voyage the Hamilton’s 117 crew members completed their Ready for Sea training, and underway qualifications for deck and engineering watchstanding, and damage control.

The Hamilton is scheduled to be commissioned on Dec. 6. After the commissioning, the crew will conduct more training and certification before its first deployment next year to conduct maritime law enforcement missions throughout the Western Hemisphere.
