Expanding its training capabilities beyond the physical, URS Corp. [URS] this week said it has acquired CATI Training Systems, a designer and developer of virtual visual environments for flight simulators for the Defense Department and commercial customers.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed. CATI, which is based in Alabama and has 12 employees involved in engineering and software development, was owned by a private group of investors.
URS typically supplies its DoD customers with physical training structures. CATI’s core capabilities include image generation and terrain simulation to train aircraft and unmanned aircraft pilots, particularly for the Predator unmanned aircraft system, on computers while simulating various sensors and environmental conditions.
