TSA Initiating Qualification Process to Support Checkpoint CT
The Transportation Security Administration is establishing a Checkpoint Property Screening System (CPSS) qualification process for checkpoint computed tomography (CT) systems. The agency says that the CT systems are “the most impactful technology available to address the rapidly-evolving threats in airports checkpoints.” TSA will evolve the CT technology to meet its mission by continuing to work within the trade space established by the thresholds and objectives defined in the Accessible Property Screening System (APSS) Operational Requirements Document. For each incremental enhancement, TSA intents to establish updates to the existing CPSS Functional Requirements Document that speaks to the area within the trade space that meets the incremental enhancements acceptable baseline. The intention of the qualification process is to test and qualify systems to TSA standards, verify an executable manufacturing process, ensure operational supportability with particular attention to minimizing the logistics footprint, implement human systems integration, ensure affordability, and demonstrate system integration, interoperability, safety, and utility.
