The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) on Thursday said it has awarded a $968 million contract to TechFlow Inc., to provide performance based logistics to the agency’s installed base of explosive detection systems (EDS) that are used to automatically scan checked bags for explosives at U.S. airports.

TSA previously relied on L3 Technologies [LLL], Smiths Detection and Leidos [LDOS], which  were each working under separate sole source contracts to provide the logistics support services for the EDS systems. Smiths Detection is part of Britain’s Smiths Group. The three are the only companies that provide EDS systems to TSA.

TSA said the new five-year contract began on Dec. 1 and runs through Nov. 30, 2023.

Under the award, San Diego-based TechFlow will provide all aspects of EDS maintenance and logistics support including radiations surveys, preventable maintenance, planning, supply support, tools, test equipment and calibration, and parts and parts obsolescence.

TechFlow’s core capabilities are in digital services, scientific research and development and cyber security risk analysis, logistics platform services, base operation support services, and energy and mobility solutions.
