The Department of Justice (DoJ) recently said that Textron‘s [TXT] Bell Helicopter business has agreed to pay the federal government an additional $3.7 million to resolve civil claims that the company first disclosed in 2004 related to billing on certain work with the Defense Department.

Bell initially paid the government $12.9 million in 2006 to resolve the billing issues but subsequent reports by the company showed more overcharges to DoD related to transactions between Bell’s operations in Texas and Canada. The $3.7 million payment covers these overcharges.

“We are committed to working with government contractors who self-disclose serious misconduct to reach a just resolution that protects federal procurement programs and the taxpayers,” Tony West, assistant attorney general for the Civil Division of DoJ, said in a statement. “Those who fully cooperate with the government will be dealt with fairly.”
