Smiths Detection Offers Vehicle Mounted X-Ray System for Commerical Security

Smiths Detection has adapted its ScanVan vehicle-mounted mobile X-Ray system for use in the commercial security market. The company originally developed ScanVan for port and border secrity and is now offering the self-contained system for security at concerts, sports arenas, convention centers, schools and other vents and venues where temporary checkpoints are needed. The system includes a HI-SCAN 100100 PRO X-Ray system installed inside a Dodge ProMaster cargo van. The X-Ray system can scan cargo, electronics, boxes, backpacks, coolers, bags and more, and includes automatic detection software to help operators intercept threats and contraband. Smiths Detection says it is adapting the system for commercial purposes due to demands for increased security.

Vision-Box to Install Facial Recognition at JFK Terminal One for Boarding

Vision-Box says it has signed an agreement with John F. Kennedy Airport Terminal One Group to install biometric eGates at departure gates based on facial recognition so that passengers can board their international flights without the need to show their passports or boarding passes. The facial recognition systems will also be used by U.S. Customs and Border Protection to match the departure of foreign nationals from the U.S. in accordance with their visas. There are 26 airlines that use Terminal One. Lufthansa will be the first carrier to used the technology at JFK Terminal One, their largest operation on the U.S. “Biometric self-boarding is one of our top priorities, improving the passenter experience and enhancing security and safety for all those who travel at JFK Terminal One,” says Steve Rowland, executive director of Terminal One Group.
