The State Department on Wednesday approved a possible $105 million Foreign Military Sale (FMS) of recapitalization on four Netherlands Patriot Fire Units.

The Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) notified Congress of the sale on the same day it was announced.

The recapitalization includes radar sets, radar digital processors, engagement control stations, information and coordination central, modem man stations, launching stations, and post deployment build (PDB)-8 upgrades. It also includes various parts, tools, technical assistance and logistical support that will produce fire units at the Configuration 3+ capability.

The Netherlands currently operates the Raytheon [RTN] Patriot Advanced Capability-3 (PAC-3). The Dutch decided to modernize its capabilities in 2015. In 2016 the Netherlands awarded Raytheon a contract to start upgrading its Patriot systems (Defense Daily, Nov. 28, 2016).

The sale has no primary contractor because U.S. government personnel will conduct the recapitalization at Letterkenny Army Depot.

DSCA said the Netherlands will use this more advanced capability to strengthen homeland defense, deter regional threats, and give direct support to coalitions and security cooperation efforts.
