Aerostructure designer and manufacturer Spirit AeroSystems [SPR] yesterday said that it has appointed former Lockheed Martin [LMT] executive Chris Kubasik to its board of directors.

Kubasik, 52, will serve on Spirit AeroSystems’ board’s audit and government and security committees.

“Chris brings a wealth of financial expertise and industry leadership background, and we are very pleased to welcome him to the board,” Bob Johnson, chairman of Spirit AeroSystems, said in a statement.

Kubasik, who was in line to become the CEO of Lockheed Martin, was fired by the company a year ago for an inappropriate relationship (Defense Daily, Nov. 13, 2012.) At the time, Kubasik was the company’s president and chief operating officer.

Before his job as president and COO, Kubasik was in charge of Lockheed Martin’s Electronic Systems segment for two years and before that he was the chief financial officer for six years.

Since January 2013, Kubasik has worked as a consultant with Ackuity Advisors to provide strategic guidance, operational and financial expertise, and assessments of mergers and acquisition opportunities.

Spirit AeroSystems makes aerostructures for commercial, military, business and regional jets.
